Best Dogs for Kids, Babies, and Families

There are quite a few breeds of animals that were created for a specific purpose. Because of that, when it comes to dogs, some breeds may not be the best breeds for families, and especially not families with small children who may be a bit loud at times. In other instances, there are breeds that are just about perfect for large or small families.

While many people get pets thinking that all they need is a visit to the vet, a pet door, and food and water dishes, there really is a lot more to it. It pays to investigate the breed before bringing it home for small children to play with and become attached to. Skipping this step could make your family, as well as your new pet, miserable.

Dogs-for-Kids

Bull Terrier: Since the Bull Terrier was actually designed and bred in order to be a companion, it is almost perfect for families. This pup also has an abnormally high tolerance for pain. That means it is perfect for younger children who may not have mastered the fine art of playing with a dog and not hurting it. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t watch the dog for signs of agitation, but it’s definitely going to be able to handle more fur pulling and other things that small children do far better than other dogs might.

Mutts: Believe it or not, mutts are some of the best pets for families. They tend to end up in shelters, so they are easy enough to find, and they may be more appreciative of a loving home than some other breeds are. On top of that, mutts normally have very few medical issues, as compared to purebred dogs.

Golden Retriever: Golden Retrievers are a very patient breed. This may stem from the fact that they were bred to retrieve animals that were hunted. With that breeding may have come the ability to sit quietly so as not to disturb the prey. In any case, they are also affectionate and devoid of aggression, making them a great addition to any family.

Labrador Retriever: Like the Golden Retriever, this animal was bred to gently retrieve prey on hunts, mostly fowl. They are very intelligent dogs, which makes them easy to train. Their sense of protectiveness makes them perfect playmates for children who might benefit from some looking after. They are also very playful, so they can be a joy for a young child who needs to expend some energy.

Newfoundland: This gentle giant is a large breed dog that has earned the nickname of “nature’s babysitter.” This pup is full of patience, and loves affection and play time, but is also protective.
